Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic thin film light receiving element capable of controlling a dark current by forming an ion doped surface. SOLUTION: The thin film light receiving element has, on a base material 1, a first electrode 2 and a second electrode 4, at least one of which possesses an optical transparency, and a photoconductive organic thin film layer 3 for generating a photo carrier by absorbing the incident light interposed between the first electrode 2 and the second electrode 4. At least one of the first electrode 2 and the photoconductive organic thin film layer 3 includes the ion doped surface 5, in which ions are doped, on the boundary between the first electrode 2 and the photoconductive organic thin film layer 3. The size of the energy of the work function of the first electrode 2 is smaller than the energy of the ionization potential of the photoconductive organic thin film layer 3, and to generate a photoinduced current, a larger positive voltage is applied to the first electrode 2 than that applied to the second electrode 4 which is capable of transporting the photo carrier.
