Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for preheating a workpiece by a laser beam during the laser manufacturing process. SOLUTION: A laser deposition apparatus (100) is provided which employs a laser beam (103) to manufacture and/or repair a workpiece (109) by depositing a material on the workpiece (109) and controlling a temperature of the workpiece (109) using a laser beam (115) prior to, during and/or after deposition.
