Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical semiconductor device which can prevent element degradation by decomposing and removing an organic substance adhered to the emission end face of a light-emitting element, without using an external light source requiring the impression of a drive voltage. SOLUTION: A laser diode 10 (light-emitting element) emits light 12 from an emission end face 10a. A TiO2film 16 (organic substance adhesion prevention film) is formed in the emission end face 10a of the laser diode 10. The TiO2film 16 generates a photocatalytic reaction which decomposes and removes the organic substance when a light of specific wavelength is irradiated. A reflecting mirror 18 reflects a part of the light 12 emitted from the laser diode 10, and irradiates the TiO2film 16. A wavelength converter 20 converts the wavelength of a light 22 for irradiating the TiO2film 16 into such a wavelength that TiO2film 16 generates the photocatalytic reaction.
