Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for producing a gas hydrate by gas-liquid contact of a natural gas such as a methane gas and a propane gas or a gas mixture thereof with raw material water, preparing pellets by compression molding of the gas hydrate, and cooling-depressurizing the pellets. SOLUTION: The method comprises a cooling depressurizing step 4 of cooling down a molded gas hydrate lump-shaped body h3 in a pressurized state for decompressing the same to the pressure on the downstream side. A receiving room 15 for storing the gas hydrate lump-shaped body h3 obtained in a shaping step 3 is provided so that the lump-shaped body h3 is decompressed to the downstream side pressure via the receiving room 15 in the cooling depressurizing step 4. The lump-shaped body h3 is introduced into the accepting room 15 filled with a liquid refrigerant r so as to be immersed for cooling down the lump-shaped body h3 by solid-liquid contact with the liquid refrigerant r.
