Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system which adopts an information retrieval technology for adapting a language model and the information retrieval technology which adopts the language model to retrieve an adaptable document. SOLUTION: The language model is adapted, by making an information retrieval question based on information included in a first data storage device and putting the question to a second data storage device. The information retrieved from the second data storage device is used for adapting the language model, and the language model is used even for retrieving the information from the second data storage device. The language models are built, based on the information in the first data storage device and the information in the second data storage device. When the first language models are given and the second language model is given, perplexity in the document in the second data storage device is determined, and adaptability of the document is determined, based on the first and second perplexity; and then the document with the adaptability beyond a threshold level is retrieved.
