PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate exhibiting high thinning and lightening-in-weight property and durability while maintaining high adhesiveness between a polarizing film and a protective layer and between the protective layer and a phase difference plate; and to provide a liquid crystal display using the polarizing plate. SOLUTION: The polarizing plate is formed by stacking the polarizing film, a first protective layer, and the phase difference plate in this order, and the liquid crystal display uses the polarizing plate. The first protective layer is made of a curing object of active energy ray curing resin composition containing epoxy-based compound having two or more epoxy groups in a molecule and (meta) acrylic-based compound having one or more (meta) acryloyloxy groups in a molecule. The polarizing plate may further have a second protective layer stacked on the surface on the opposite side to the stacked side of the first protective layer in the polarizing film.
