Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel injection pump preventing erosion caused by cavitation generated owing to transmission of a spill pressure to a sub port. SOLUTION: A fuel injection pump 1 includes: a fuel pressure chamber 31 disposed in a space within a plunger barrel 8; a main port 14 disposed in the plunger barrel 8; a fuel gallery 47 communicating with the main port 14; a sub port 36 communicating with the fuel gallery 47; and a CSD 30 for changing fuel injection timing. A plunger 7 has: a main lead 16 for communicating the main port 14 with a fuel pressure chamber 31; and a sub lead 56 for communicating the sub port 36 with the fuel pressure chamber 31. Immediately after the main port 14 is communicated with the main lead 16 to spill the high-pressure fuel to the fuel gallery 47, the sub port 36 is communicated with the sub lead 56 to spill the high-pressure fuel to the fuel gallery 47.
