Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety device for a passenger conveyor, enabling to secure the safety of the passenger conveyor at an access 61 of a moving handrail 6. SOLUTION: The safety device for the passenger conveyor 1 is obliquely arranged between upper and lower separated step floors. On an outer deck 5 covering the outside lower part of a balustrade 3 near a platform, an object detecting sensor 7 is installed having an approximately fan-like detection region 73 constituted by one side 71 and one side 72, in parallel to a platform floor 8. It detects an object which resides on the platform to approach the access 61 of the moving handrail 6 through the outer sides of an inner deck 4 and the outer deck 5 and actuates safety operation such as attention-seeking announcement or operation speed-down/stop.
