Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheath heater and a glow plug capable of aiming at longer life by restraining invasion of nitrogen in an exoergic coil for a comparatively long period. SOLUTION: The glow plug 1 has a cylindrical main metal fitting 2 and a sheath heater 3 mounted on the main metal fitting 2. The sheath heater 3 has a tube 7 extending in the axis C1 direction, a center shaft 8, the exoergic coil 9, and a control coil 10. The tube 7 is formed to satisfy the relationship of 45≤x≤160 when the value obtained by dividing an area of a target coil range TK by a peripheral length of the target coil range TK is x, regarding one target coil range TK among a plurality of coil ranges K surrounded by a contour line G of the exoergic coil 9 in the cross-section including a center axis X1 of the exoergic coil 9. Further, when the aluminum content of the exoergic coil 9 is y (mass%), regarding the target coil range TK, the exoergic coil is formed to satisfy the relationship of 8≤y≤15.
