Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyelectrolyte for a fuel cell which polyelectrolyte retains superior heat resistance, acid resistance, and proton conductivity even under a non-humidified or low-humidified high-temperature operational condition, a manufacturing method for the polyelectrolyte, and a membrane electrode assembly and a fuel cell using the polyelectrolyte. SOLUTION: The polyelectrolyte for the fuel cell at least has a structure: (-CF2-CF(M)CH2-CF2-), where M denotes any one of CF3, CF2H, and CFH2. The polyelectrolyte contains a fluorinated polymer to which a basic compound is added, and a hydrogen ion conductor. The basic compound is a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound in which at least two hydrogen atoms are replaced, and the fluorinated polymer is bridged by the basic compound.
