Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp which is suppressed in lighting failure due to breakage of a lamp. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp has a cylindrical metal 3 and a solder layer 4 formed as a covering metal at the end part of a discharge container 1, and the solder layer 4 is formed so as to cover the cylindrical metal 3, and the discharge container 1 portion on which the cylindrical metal 3 is formed has a compression distortion β in circumference direction and a compression distortion γ in tube axis direction remaining. These compression distortions β and γ can be formed, for example, by installing the cylindrical metal 3 having a coefficient of thermal expansion larger than the coefficient of thermal expansion of the discharge container 1 on the outer circumference of the discharge container 1.
