Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a master carrier for magnetic transfer which is provided with a magnetic layer having high magnetic anisotropy energy and less influenced by a demagnetizing field caused by a transfer magnetic field and, in consequence, capable of performing favorable magnetic recording of signals having thin line thickness (less than 80 nm), and to provide a magnetic transfer method using the master carrier. SOLUTION: The master carrier for magnetic transfer provided on a perpendicular magnetic recording medium for transferring magnetic information to the magnetic recording medium under application of a magnetic field includes: a transfer part having a magnetic layer corresponding to magnetic information for magnetic transfer formed thereon; and a non-transfer part which has a concave shape which is relatively lower than the transfer part having the magnetic layer.
