Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a generic mechanical seal assembly in which the axial mobility of respective seal rings is less affected by a secondary sealing assembly and which simultaneously simplifies the mounting thereof. SOLUTION: This mechanical seal assembly includes: at least one pair of co-operating seal rings 4, 5, one of the seal rings being axially movable and axially biased with a biasing force against the other seal ring, the biasing force being transmittable through a force transmitting ring 10 to the respective seal rings, in order to bias facing sliding surfaces 7, 8 of the seal rings, between which a sealing gap is formed during operation, in a mutual sealing engagement; and a secondary sealing assembly provided at the force transmitting ring 10 for sealing the axially movable seal ring with respect to at least one circumferential guiding surface 16, 18 of a guiding part 1 guiding the movement of the seal ring and the force transmitting ring.
