Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the danger of blow-through of steam in the steam pretreatment at minimum and preventing foul-smelling gases from being released into the atmosphere, concerning the structure and method for steam pretreatment of chips during production of cellulose pulp. SOLUTION: Spraying nozzles 10 for the injection of cooling fluid are arranged in the gas phase of the steam pretreatment vessel in order to avoid the blow-through of gases in the steam pretreatment vessel 1 and to prevent foul-smelling gases from being released into the atmosphere. In the event of the initiation of the risk for blow-through of steam, cooling that is proportional to the risk is activated. It is possible in this simple manner to avoid the emission of gases from a chip container when interruptions in the process occur, whereby the release of odors into the surroundings can be minimized.
