Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To analyze statistic physical characteristics of a nonbiological specimen through measurement of physical characteristics (such as the volume, shape, color, and surface shape) of individual particles of the specimen. SOLUTION: This particle analyzer is equipped with a flow cell 2 causing sample particles to pass one by one therethrough, a sample particle injection means 4 for injecting the sample particles into the flow cell, a means for measuring a change in impedance concurring with the passage of a sample particle with electrodes 5 provided on the inlet and outlet sides of the flow cell, a means for applying light to the flow cell to measure surface-scattered light intensity on a sample particle, and an arithmetic means for analyzing the statistic physical characteristics of the nonbiological specimen by statistically processing the light intensity and the change in impedance measured for each of the respective sample particles. The light intensity and the change in impedance are simultaneously measured for each of the sample particles to analyze the physical characteristics based on variations in two-dimensional distribution with the light intensity and the change in impedance for each of the sample particles severally used as independent parameters.
