Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination device of a vehicle equipped with a slide door which can not only secure convenience of a passenger getting in a car but also protect the passenger's privacy effectively. SOLUTION: The illumination device built into the vehicle 1 equipped with the slide door 20 opening/closing an ingress-egress opening Hs formed at the side portion of a vehicle compartment, includes a plurality of lamps E1 to E8 illuminating areas inside and outside of the vehicle compartment around the entrance, and an illumination controller controlling lighting of the lamps. The plurality of lamps is provided with lower illuminators illuminating lower areas located below a beltline Lb of the vehicle such that a passenger's upper body is not illuminated, and vehicle-inside upper illuminators illuminating an upper-specified area in the vehicle compartment located above the beltline. The illumination controller prohibits illumination by the vehicle-inside upper illuminators and starts the illumination by the lower illuminators based on detection of the vehicle-stop operation, and starts illumination by the vehicle-inside upper illuminators, when it is determined that the passenger gets out of an illumination area of the vehicle-inside upper illuminators, based on detection of the egress-action of the passenger.
