PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate satisfying durability and uniformity (unevenness) of display. SOLUTION: The polarizing plate is provided with a transparent protective film on both sides of a polyvinyl alcohol-based polarizer through an adhesive layer. One of the transparent protective films contains a (meth)acrylic resin having a lactone ring structure, and serves as a retardation film having an in-plane retardation of not less than 40 nm and/or a retardation in the thickness direction of not less than 80 nm.
