PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an obstacle detecting apparatus for a vehicle for detecting an obstacle so that collision with the obstacle such as a pedestrian etc. in a crossroad can be effectively prevented. SOLUTION: The obstacle detecting apparatus for the vehicle for detecting the obstacle using an image of the obstacle reflected on a reflector installed in the crossroad includes a reflector detecting means for detecting the reflector which is installed in the crossroad, obstacle image detecting means for detecting an image of the obstacle reflected on the reflector, an obstacle approaching degree calculating means for calculating an approaching degree of the obstacle to the reflector from the image of the detected obstacle, and a system controlling means for controlling an alarm system and/or a security system in response to the approaching degree.
