Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display capable of improving image quality of a display image when performing partial lighting operations by a light source section. SOLUTION: A flare countermeasure correction section 62 determines, based on an image signal D0, whether a condition is satisfied such that a partial display region corresponding to the partial lighting section 4 includes a low-luminance region in the periphery of a high-luminance region. When it is determined that the above condition is satisfied, the flare countermeasure correction section 62 corrects the image signal D0 in the low-luminance region in the following manner. On a condition that the partial lighting section 4 corresponding to the partial display region satisfying the condition has a luminous energy (a set luminance BLpix) determined by a backlight control section 12, the correction of the image signal D0 in the low-luminance region is performed so that the display luminance level of the low-luminance region of the partial display region results in approximately equal to the display luminance level under a maximum luminous energy (a maximum luminance BLmax) of the partial lighting section 4 corresponding to the partial display region. Then, display driving in the low-luminance region is performed based on the corrected image signal D1. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
