PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a softener composition imparting flexibility and water absorbing property and having no unpleasant odor. SOLUTION: The softener contains: (a) 0.1-30 mass% block type alkylene oxide derivative represented by formula (I) of Y-[O(EO)a-(AO)b-(FO)c-R1]k; and (b) an amine compound represented by formula (II), a neutralization product of the amine compound or a quaternized product of the amine compound. In formula (I), Y is a residue obtained by removing hydroxy groups of a polyhydric alcohol having 3-6 hydroxy groups, k is the number of hydroxy groups of the polyhydric alcohol, EO is an oxyethylene group, AO is a 3-6C oxyalkylene group, and 0≤a×k≤50, 1≤b×k≤100, 0≤c×k≤100, with the proviso of 1<(a+c)×k. In formula (II), R2, R3and R4are H, a 1-36C hydrocarbon group, or a functional group having an ester group, an amide group or an ether group in an 8-36C hydrocarbon chain. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
