Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device which can correctly detect the changes in the kinds of the transfer materials and select the optimal printing mode, without causing deterioration in its performance, even when various kinds of transfer materials are mixed and loaded in the transfer material cassette, and the like. SOLUTION: This image forming device has a transfer material sensor 123 for discriminating the kinds of the transfer materials, and an imaging state detector for checking whether the change in imaging state has exceeded the predetermined range. Furthermore, it has a controller for making image forming in the mode, decided in advance, matching the kind of the transfer material, when the imaging state detector does not find that the imaging state has changed larger than as predetermined, and which discriminates the kind of the transfer material, if the change in imaging state is found to have exceeded the predetermined range so as to form image in a mode matching the kind of the discriminated transfer material.
