Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorbing member capable of securing a desired energy absorbing quantity by controlling a peak value of an initial load of self destruction caused during transition to a stable successive destruction mode. SOLUTION: This shock absorbing member 3 is composed of reinforced fiber and resin with a plurality of fiber reinforced resin layers for absorbing a shock by the self destruction when receiving the shock. The reinforced fiber of at least one fiber reinforced resin layer 5 at a tip 3a extends in a direction in a range of 90°±45° with respect to the energy absorbing axis direction. The reinforced fiber 7 of a shock absorbing member body 3b except for the tip 3a in the same fiber reinforced resin layer extends in a direction in a range of 0°±45° with respect to the energy absorbing axis direction.
