Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device, having excellent contrast, response speed and viewing angle characteristic. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate 17 having a CS electrode 35 for forming a pixel electrode 13 and an auxiliary capacitance, a second substrate 16 having a common electrode 12, and liquid crystal having negative permittivity anisotropy, wherein the first substrate or the second substrate 16 has an alignment regulating structure for regulating the alignment of the liquid crystal when the voltage is applied, the alignment regulating structure includes a slit formed in the pixel electrode 13 or the common electrode 12 or a projection formed on the pixel electrode 13 or the common electrode 12, and when viewed from the vertical direction to the substrate surface, at least part of the alignment regulating structure overlaps a CS electrode 35.
