PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a serial type recorder and a recording medium feeding method, which starts feeding a succeeding medium before a recording means stops after it finishes the last line recording. SOLUTION: The serial type recorder makes a sheet feeding condition determination and a target position determination when finishing the last line printing. In the sheet feeding condition determination, it is determined whether conveying position of a sheet (a preceding sheet) in the last line printing meets a feeding condition that a succeeding sheet can be fed without discharge of the preceding sheet. In the target position determination which enables feeding of a succeeding sheet, it is determined whether a target stopping position of a carriage to be moved by drive of a CR motor 16, and a sheet feeding unit as an object to be driven by an ASF motor 23, meet a target position condition that switching holding unit is in a position to be switched to a selected switching position. When both the sheet feeding condition and the target position condition are met, a PF motor 27 and the ASF motor 23 are driven to start a sheet feeding operation before the CR motor 16 stops.
