PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide communication equipment which can prevent wrong authentication in initially authenticating connection among multiple pieces of communication equipment, and its method. SOLUTION: The communication equipment 1 controls the following states during authentication for other communication equipment: an authentication start allowed for the state of communication equipment, an authentication start denied, an authentication started, authentication in progress, success in authentication, a failure in authentication, and the completion of authentication. The communication equipment includes an authentication treatment division 20 which stops the authentication when receiving a plurality of authentication messages during authentication, a collision detection division 25 which detects a plurality of received authentication messages, a display division 23 which displays each state, and an input division 22 which receives a change of a state (certification start operation) from "authentication start allowed" to "authentication started " and a change of a state (authentication completion operation) from "success in authentication" to "completion of authentication".
