Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell provided with a solid electrolyte layer capable of generating power by using CO2and H2. SOLUTION: The fuel cell includes an electrolyte layer 1, a fuel electrode 2 provided on one surface side of the electrolyte layer 1, an oxygen electrode 3 provided on the other surface side of the electrolyte layer 1, and an iron oxide layer 4 formed on the surface of the oxygen electrode 3. The iron oxide is preferably an ion oxide of an oxygen defect type, especially, an iron oxide of the oxygen defect type. When a combustion gas (a combustion gas containing CO2) of a high temperature discharged from an automobile is supplied to the iron oxide layer, and when H2is supplied to the fuel electrode, not only electric power can be obtained but also a countermeasure against a discharged exhaust gas can be taken, thus allowing the effective use of the cell.
