Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radiation monitor and a method for confirming its operation which always confirm the soundness of a sensor section, and measure a radiation by using a monitor module section separated from the sensor section without affecting the measurement. SOLUTION: The sensor section 2 is provided with a detection element 7 sensitive to light and the radiation so as to always confirm the operation of the sensor section 2. The monitor module section 3 is connected to the sensor section 2, and controls a function for confirming the operation of the sensor section 2 by using an optical pulse signal from a light emitting element 9. When the optical pulse is generated so as to confirm the operation of the detection element 7, an output from the sensor section 2 is excluded from a calculation in the monitor module section 3 so as to prevent an effect of the operation confirmation by the optical pulse. If the output from the sensor section 2 has a high count rate, a constitution for deactivating the function for confirming the operation of the sensor is provided in both of the sensor section 2 and the monitor module section 3.
