Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrochromic compound and its intermediate compound having durability and capable of stably repeating reversible coloring and decoloring display many times with superior responsiveness and sharp tone, and to provide a method for manufacturing these compounds and an electrochromic device. SOLUTION: The electrochromic compound is synthesized by having 2,5-bis(4-pyridyl)-3,4-difluorothiophene, as an intermediate compound, react with halogenated compounds B1-A1-Y, B2-A2-Y (where Y represents an anion, A1and A2represents aliphatic hydrocarbon groups which may be substituted, B1and B2represent aliphatic hydrocarbon groups or aromatic hydrocarbon groups which may be substituted, and at least one of B1 and B2 has a functional group for depositing the compound on a porous electrode).
