Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reliable vacuum cleaner which detects abnormality of an electric blower and stops operation in all operation modes. SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner comprises the electric blower 4 for generating suction air, a current detection means 14 for detecting current flowing through the electric blower 4, a control circuit 6 for performing phase control of voltage that is applied to the electric blower 4, a dust collection chamber 3 which is arranged upstream of the electric blower 4 and which collects dust, and a memory 13 in which voltage phase angles and current values for each operation mode are pre-stored. The electric blower 4 is forcibly stopped when the current flowing through the electric blower 4 is greater than a specified current based on the current value stored in the memory 13. Thereby, the current is securely cut off when abnormality occurs in the electric blower 4. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
