PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify a production process of paper or paperboard and reduce a cost thereof by heightening effects of sizing treatment and carrying out the sizing treatment considering water content of wet paper by discovering the optimum value of the water content of the wet paper at the sizing treatment. SOLUTION: The method for producing the paper or the paperboard including a step for coating a sizing liquid 2 at least on one surface of the wet paper 1 under papermaking process of the paper or the paperboard includes: coating the sizing liquid 2 in 10-25 wt.% concentration on the wet paper 1 having the water content in a range of 10-25 wt.%, and subjecting the resultant wet paper 1 to post drying treatment.
