Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive cold cathode discharge lamp having low power consumption. SOLUTION: The cold cathode discharge lamp includes a discharge container 1 having a discharge space 11 inside, a discharge medium filled in the discharge space 11, and a pair of electrodes 3a1, 3b1 arranged opposing each other in the discharge space 11. On the surface of each of the electrodes 3a1, 3b1, an oxide layer 4 is formed of an electrode material. An optimum material for each of the electrodes 3a1, 3b1 is nickel (Ni). A thickness T of the oxide layer 4 is 10 nm≤T≤100 μm, preferably, 1 μm≤T≤100 μm. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
