Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the breakage of a polymer electrolyte membrane by avoiding the concentration of mechanical stress at the end of a catalyst layer on the polymer electrolyte membrane to keep high power-generation performance. SOLUTION: A membrane electrode conjugant is formed in such a way that catalyst layers 2, 2 having areas same as that of the polymer electrolyte membrane are formed on both surfaces of the polymer electrolyte membrane 1, and their outer peripheries are mold-cured with a seal base material 8. Gas diffusion layers 3, 3 having electron conductivity and gas permeability are arranged outside the catalyst layers 2, 2. Conductive separators 5, 5 are arranged outside the gas diffusion layers 3, 3. A groove-shaped gas passage 9 is formed on the surface coming in contact with the gas diffusion layer 3 of the separator 5, and fuel gas or oxidant gas is supplied from the gas passage 9 to the gas diffusion layer 3. A gasket 6 having elasticity and airtightness is arranged between the seal base material 8 and the separator 5. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
