Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a first phosphor of which the emission spectrum shape well matches the color filter of three primary colors of light, a light-emitting device including the first phosphor, and an image display apparatus that uses the light-emitting device. SOLUTION: The light-emitting device includes a semiconductor light-emitting element emitting exciting light and the first phosphor absorbing the exciting light and emitting a green light. The first phosphor is a solid solution comprising an aluminum element and a metal element M selected from Mn, Ce and Eu in the crystals of an oxynitride having a β-type Si3N4crystal structure, and having an amount of oxygen which is not higher than 0.8 mass% in the crystals. Furthermore, the image display apparatus containing the light-emitting device as a backlight source. The method of manufacturing the first phosphor is also provided. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
