Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve accuracy of an electromagnetic navigation system. SOLUTION: An electromagnetic shield assembly for use with C-arm scanning devices includes a ring shield 310 configured to encompass an x-ray detector. The ring shield 310 has a first window opening 315 to receive x-rays. The system also includes a window shield 320 configured to shield the first window opening 315. Certain embodiments of the present invention provide a system for a universal navigation target. The system includes a radiolucent calibration target 230 and an electromagnetic shield 118. The electromagnetic shield 118 includes a ring shield 310 having a first window opening 315 to receive x-rays and a window shield 320 configured to shield the first window opening 315 of the ring shield 310.
