Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lower the operating voltage of a switching element. SOLUTION: The switching element 100 comprises: an insulative substrate 10; a first electrode 20 and a second electrode 30 provided on one surface of the insulative substrate 10; and an interelectrode gap portion 40 which is provided between the first electrode 20 and the second electrode 30, and which has a gap such that a switching phenomenon of resistance occurs by applying predetermined voltage between the first electrode 20 and the second electrode 30, wherein the one surface of the insulative substrate 10 contains nitrogen.
