PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproduction apparatus and a data recording method in the recording and reproduction apparatus that allow the image of a program relating to an RSS document to be easily reproduced. SOLUTION: The recording and reproduction apparatus 1 has a recording section that records image data and a reproduction section that reproduces an image signal using the recorded image data. The recording and reproduction apparatus 1 has the position information of the image data recorded in the recording section, and has a title metadata generating section that generates title metadata used as a title of the image data, an acquiring section that acquires the RSS document from a distribution server that distributes the RSS document via a network, and a position information adding section that adds the position information included in the related title metadata relating to the RSS document out of the title metadata to the acquired RSS document.
