PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle detection device which enables a user to be informed of positions of vehicles traveling around his or her vehicle. SOLUTION: A periphery detection device 5 maps locations indicated by preceding vehicle information acquired from a radar device 2 and preceding vehicle information acquired from an inter-vehicle communication device 31, in a mapping area based on the user's vehicle. As regards a plurality of vehicle locations among which distances are shorter than a prescribed distance and degrees of coincidence of advancing directions are high, out of mapped vehicle locations, reliability of pieces of information indicating the vehicle locations is calculated, and vehicle locations are specified in accordance with the reliability. A navigation ECU 44 displays vehicles traveling around the user's vehicle on a display device 43 to inform the user of them on the basis of vehicle location information generated from the specified result.
