PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drop-in product to avoid a cost for reforming wide variety of detergents, and to provide a new ethoxylate method. SOLUTION: The method for producing the alkylphenol ethoxylate comprises a step of charging a portion of a product (a heal) from a previous production process or an ethoxylate to a reactor, charging, an optional process of charging, an alkylphenol starter of from ca. 0.2 wt.% to an amount equal to or more than the amount of the heel to the reactor, a step of activating a double metal cyanide (DMC) catalyst by packing ethylene oxide to the reactor, adding the alkylphenol starter simultaneously with ethylene oxide during a part of the process, and a step of continuing ethylene oxide addition following the completion of the simultaneous addition of the alkylphenol starter and ethylene oxide.
