PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display an image of high contrast in a projection-type display apparatus performing polarization separation using a wire grid polarizing plate, by providing the wire grid polarizing plate whose positioning is set such that the transmission axis ( polarization axis) of the wire grid polarizing plate is in a direction accurately with respect to a polarization direction of illumination light made incident in the wire grid polarizing plate. SOLUTION: The wire grid polarizing plate 32 is supported by a first rectangular hole 31f of a support member 31 so that a principal surface part of the wire grid polarizing plate 32 is inclined with respect to the optical axis of illumination light made incident in a reflection-type spatial light modulation element 38 by 45°, and positioning of the wire grid polarizing plate 32 is performed, by pressurizing a side surface part 32c to be the side closer to the reflection-type spatial light modulation element 38 to a side edge part of the first rectangular hole 31f.
