Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively avoid optical fatigue of an image holder as a result of being exposed to light at maintenance/inspection. SOLUTION: An image holder unit 1 is freely detachably attached to the body 10 of an image forming apparatus, and the image forming apparatus forms an image by using the image holder unit 1. The image holder unit 1 includes the image holder 2 that is photosensitive and holds images; a support frame body 3 attached freely detachably to the body 10 of the image forming apparatus and supporting the image holder 2; a light-shielding protective cover 5 for covering the externally exposed part of the surface of the image holder 2, when the image holder 2 is exposed outside; and a protective cover storage section 4 disposed in the support frame body 3 or the image holder 2 and storing the light-shielding protective cover 5, when it is not in use.
