Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing sponge titanium capable of easily extracting a sponge titanium block produced in a reaction vessel with a Kroll process. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the sponge titanium by reducing titanium tetrachloride by magnesium, this production method includes: providing a punching jig in the bottom of the reaction vessel in which one part of the bottom forms a cap portion; placing a floor plate on the punching jig; filling a space on the floor plate with magnesium; dripping titanium tetrachloride on the magnesium to form the sponge titanium block; cutting the cap portion to form an opening in the bottom of the reaction vessel; inserting a punching rod into the opening and pressing the punching jig to extract the sponge titanium block from the reaction vessel.
