Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a saccharide in a sufficiently high saccharification rate under relatively mild conditions using woody biomass as feedstock. SOLUTION: The method for producing the saccharide from woody biomass comprising lignin, cellulose and hemicellulose is provided, specifically comprising the step of crushing the woody biomass into crushed biomass 10 mm or smaller in particle diameter, the step of impregnating the crushed biomass with a chemical liquid comprising water, a water-miscible organic solvent and an organic acid and subjecting the crushed biomass to steam cooking, the step of separating solubles in the crushed biomass dissolved in the chemical liquid and insolubles in the crushed biomass insoluble to the chemical liquid, and the step of saccharifying the insolubles by bringing the insolubles into contact with an enzyme.
