Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of more surely suppressing deterioration of warm-up property of an exhaust emission treatment catalyst due to flow-in of moisture once absorbed by a water absorbing agent provided at an upstream side of the exhaust emission treatment catalyst and discharged from the water absorbing agent to the exhaust emission treatment catalyst. SOLUTION: The exhaust emission control system includes the exhaust emission treatment catalyst provided at an exhaust passage of the internal combustion engine, the water absorbing agent provided at the upstream side of the exhaust emission treatment catalyst in the exhaust passage and an electric heater for rising temperature of the exhaust emission treatment catalyst. On cold start of the internal combustion engine, before the temperature of the water absorbing agent rises and reaches to a moisture discharge temperature Tw, the exhaust emission treatment catalyst is heated by the electric heater to equal to or higher than an active temperature Tw by the electric heater.
