Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress bulging of a battery and increase in internal resistance of a battery during high temperature storage and obtain excellent charged storage characteristics in the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery using a lithium transition metal composite oxide mainly containing Ni as the transition metal and having layer structure as a positive active material. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery containing a positive electrode including a lithium transition metal composite oxide mainly containing Ni as the transition metal and having layer structure as the positive active material, a negative electrode including a material absorbing releasing lithium as a negative active material, and a nonaqueous electrolyte is provided with a process assembling the battery with the positive electrode, the negative electrode, and the nonaqueous electrolyte; a process charging the battery until the potential of the positive electrode reaches 4.0 V (vs. Li/Li+) or higher; a process storing the battery after charging at 85-120°C and generating gas; and a process removing generated gas.
