Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording device having higher density and large recording capacity by recording servo information with self servo writing in a servo region composed of a flattened part of a discrete track medium and obtaining servo characteristics excellent more than that of pre-pattern servo and similar to that of magnetic servo writing. SOLUTION: The flattened part 112 is provided on a pattern disk 11 wherein the discrete track 110 is formed and servo information is recorded on the flattened part by using a self servo writing method. A pattern (groove) 128 for timing detection for controlling timing in the circumferential direction needed upon self servo writing is preprovided on a disk by patterning and a RRO error signal used for controlling positioning in the radial direction is recorded in the servo information on the flattened part of the disk.
