Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bearing device for an axle having a sensor mounting hole, in which the sensor mounting hole can be easily formed without causing interfering with a hardening layer by quenching formed at the outer periphery of the rotating surface of an outer ring of a bearing, and which can suppress the wear of a drill even if interfering with the hardening layer occurs. SOLUTION: A body 23 of a rotation detecting sensor 22 of a rotation number detecting means 20 provided on the bearing device for the axle is formed so that its upper part has a larger diameter and its lower part has a smaller diameter, and provided in the outer ring 13 of the bearing 10. An upper part of the sensor mounting hole 18 into which the body 23 of the rotation detecting sensor 22 is inserted is formed so that its inner diameter becomes substantially equal to the outer diameter of a larger diameter part of the body 23, and a lower part thereof is formed so that its inner diameter becomes slightly larger than the outer diameter of a smaller diameter part of the body 23.
