Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus wherein the alignment of the position of the leading end of a sheet is performed using a simple constitution, without affecting the rotational phase of a photoreceptor drum, and the deviation of transfer timing due to decentering of the photoreceptor drum is prevented, and the image transfer position accuracy is improved. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 1A includes the photoreceptor drum 3; a developing roller 2a; a registration roller 15; and a drive control part 62 for controlling the drive of the registration roller 15; wherein the registration roller 15 is arranged in a position where the sheet P is abutted on the photoreceptor drum 3 on the upstream side in the drum rotating direction from the tangent position with the photoreceptor drum 3; and the apparatus includes a phase sensor 62a having a function of detecting the decentering amount of the surface of the photoreceptor drum 3, and also, to read a bar code, and a function of correcting a timing of driving the registration roller 15, based on the detected displacement information about the surface of the photoreceptor drum 3 and the photoreceptor drum correction information about the photoreceptor drum 3 acquired from the bar code.
