Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for effectively using, as a slag killing material in a slag ladle, fine refractory waste with a grain size of <10 mm among refractory waste produced in various furnace equipment and ladles used in steelmaking facilities. SOLUTION: The slag killing material comprises the refractory waste as a raw material and contains the refractory waste with a grain size of <10 mm among the refractory waste produced in various furnace equipment and ladles used in steelmaking facilities. The slag killing material contains ≥50 mass% of refractory powder with a grain size of ≤1 mm and is used by uniformly mixing it with ≥15 mass% of water, based on the total mass of the slag killing material, and charging it into slag in the slag ladle. The refractory powder with a grain size of ≤1 mm may be produced by grinding the refractory waste into a grain size of ≤1 mm, or the refractory powder with a grain size of ≤1 mm, which is incidentally produced at crushing, classification treatment, etc. of refractory waste, may be used.
