PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a saw wire and a wire saw machine capable of getting thin and small and elongating the service life or of contributing to automation of cutting work using the wire saw machine. SOLUTION: The saw wire is provided with a wire (11) comprising strands; base cylinders (12) through which the wire (11) penetrates and which are arranged at regular intervals; and a coating agent (14) for fixing the base cylinders (12) and the wire (11) by coating plastic resin with the base cylinders (12) arranged. The wire (11) comprises steel strands having 4 mm or less diameter, and abrasive grains (13) fixed by a brazing filler metal are provided on the surface of the base cylinders (12). The wire saw machine is provided with a rotating state detection means for detecting rotating state data of a drive motor and with a service life determination means for determining the service life of the saw wire based on the rotating state data.
