Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance a heat dissipation effect of an IC chip, and to inspect characteristics of a crystal resonator by using an examination terminal provided on the bottom surface of a recessed portion. SOLUTION: In the crystal oscillator for surface mounting which comprises a crystal piece 2 sealed in one recessed portion of a container body 1 and an IC chip 3 die-bonded to the bottom surface of the other recessed portion and includes a ground pattern 9 on the bottom surface of the other recessed portion, the ground pattern 9 is constituted of electrically independent first and second patterns, the first pattern is connected with one exciting electrode of the crystal piece 2, and the second pattern is connected to the other exciting electrode and an external terminal 12 as a ground terminal 12. Characteristics of the crystal resonator are inspected with the first and second patterns as a pair of characteristic inspection terminals of the crystal resonator and after the characteristics of the crystal resonator are inspected with the first and second patterns, the electrical connections of the first and second patterns with the pair of exciting electrodes are then cut off and the first and second patterns are connected.
